Rainy days

Are really good for finishing projects.  They also make you feel like a nice glass of red wine, as you metaphorically pat yourself on the back for a job well done.  What does a Hexy Lady drink in the way of reds?  Well this Yalumba Shiraz jumped into my trolley last week at First Choice.  Quite a modest price tag too ... I don't think it was my all time best drop, but it did make me smile.

In the meantime, this weekend saw a completion of the top of my latest cot quilt.  I was playing with these HST and Tula Pink charm pack at Bowral, and Kim "kindly"suggested the smaler HST would be quite nice in the middle.  While I cursed her for the extra 48 x 2.75 inch HST I had to make, I do like the effect.  I think this might be what my mother would refer to as a "mod quilt".  I think it is a bit like some of Rita Hodge's quilts over at Red Pepper Quilts.  She has a thing going with HSTs, and I can see why now.  You can churn them out with a bit of chain piecing.

Liesl had also asked me if I had made the Divided Basket Pattern from Anna at Noodlehead.  SO after this rainy weekend I have.  Can I just tell you now that you probably don't need ALL the layers of fabric and stiffening I used.  Other than that, and a general reminder to read the pattern first and put the pattern pieces together before starting, I was impressed.  And as you can see it is already a home for my crochet project.  I will be making another one, without the pocket and with handles soon.

Hope you all had as productive a weekend, or if not a relaxing one.

Ciao.

Easter sewing

Well as I was working over Easter, little sewing was done but I did start sewing this one together

Hopefully will have a little show and tell next time. I still have a lots of the WIPs to finish but of course had to start another top.

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter and the Easter bunny came. Alas when I went to the super market in our area for one they were all sold out. I still can't believe it.

Chinese Whispers

Hi all, this post is on behalf of Elizabeth who, to use her own words, is "blog-challenged".  Hopefully I have got the information correct and it's not a case of chinese whispers gone wrong….

First up we will all be envious of Elizabeth having to spend time over Easter enjoying their new boat, or as they refer to it "the floating caravan".  Looks fun.

Then onto important matters, sewing.  A cot size quilt has been quilted, and scrap vomit is ready to be quilted. Both of the quilts have been inspired by Crazy Mom Quilts.

And lastly, and most enviously, Elizabeth did a class with Saffron Craig and printed these beautiful feathers.  Now our task is to simply tell her what she should do with them…. embroider???

Happy Easter to all, I hope everyone has time to spend with their families and that the Easter Bunny finds each and everyone of us!  Ciao Kim

I blame Denny .....

I had been seeing the whole economy block thing going off at the various blogs I lurk around, you know, Red Pepper Quilts etc. etc. etc.  But when Denny brought her little beauties in last month, I thought, I'll just try a couple.  A couple, for fun you know, with a few scraps hanging around the machine.  Well, more than a hundred different fabrics later, and that isn't including the ones I trialled but rejected, I had a cot quilt.

It was seriously addictive and pretty cool.  I did trim back each block after I sewed it, and it went together like a dream.  I think I will put a border around it to make it a little bit bigger as it is only 30 inches square as it is.   Photos below.   Are we catching up on the Easter weekend?
