Class Recap and Challenge Concept
The third Saturday of the month is definitely my favourite day of the month - and I'm sure that I speak for a few others as well. First up a bit of eye candy from our show and tell on Saturday. I have to say that I am in love love love with Kates blocks and can not wait to see the finished quilt. I'm sorry I didn't take any photos of Kate's other quilt with the amazing custom quilting.
Also a big thanks to Stephanie for the delicious salad lunch - recipe required please!
Now for my "challenge concept" ideas. The colour palette I drew was bright pastels. My object of inspiration is my drystone wall in my garden - I love the randomness of it, there are sort of lines but they aren't structured or straight. My challenge is to now try and figure out how I combine a monotone drystone wall into a soft pastel palette….
Not trying to overachieve much… I did stay up until almost midnight Saturday finishing my first block. I did expand the original A4 size up to A3 on the photocopier, so rather than 12" finished it is now 17" finished. I was aiming for a slight tone on tone (to go with my monotone stone wall) and I think I have pretty much achieved this. My recommendations for this block…. there are lots of sewing lines (13 in each block) so I recommend doing all 8 (4 of each template A & template B) at the same time - you are using the same size bit of fabric all the time then. When you are cutting our the side bits of each block remember to cut 16 of them. I used normal photocopy paper and didn't have a problem but it definitely would have been smoother if you had the thin paper.

Also, I mentioned that I might have done a large princess feather. Yes I love blowing things up on a photocopier! The finished size of this block is approx 36"…. now I have to find a home for it but I might just have a little secret plan in mind….
Happy Easter and I hope we all get some stitching time!

Starching helps
... but it is still a tricky block from where I sit. I guess that there is quite a lot of bias in the block too, which doesn't make for a straightforward construction process either.
I am now leaving this little project to work on others, ahead of our next catch up.
