I think I have a subliminal problem with bias. In this block there is a lot of it .... The orange plaid triangles I sewed and then cut to size. My flying geese pieces were pretty square, but as I found out later not perfect. Then I cut the kite pieces using the kaleido ruler and cut them a bit bigger so I had some wriggle room. But when you sewed the kites to the geese - so to speak - the bias on the kites definitely did some stretching. If Elizabeth hasn't started yet, I would think foundation piecing would work really well. In fact you could even foundation piece on your geese once you had made them. There was some serious pressing in the final stages, and also i found the last triangles were bigger then they needed to be. I trimmed my block before adding the final triangles .... And voila! Don't look too closely at the points though. I estimate a 50% accuracy rate.

No golden goose yet
Sorry Denny! I have accidentally removed your lovely photo ...... Can you please put it back on? I am very excited it is Friday afternoon and after a week of corporate chaos I plan a little ocean swimming and some light sewing. Just for fun I crocheted a couple of hexy shapes as the start of an afghan. Photos to come.
In the meantime I am sharing the baby quilt I gifted to one of the boys teachers at school. I was a bit sorry to see this one go, but still, hopefully it is much loved and used. Just looking at it I think I may need to make another one.

Progress Report
This year
the Hexy Ladies are doing a Mystery BOM with Sue Ross at Material Obsession.
Each month we are tasked with one machine pieced and one hand pieced
block. The "mystery" is we don't know how the finished quilt
will look, and to be honest I don't know if our fearless teacher Sue even
knows!
So far we
seem to be keeping up (with the exception of me!). Here is a sneak peak
at our blocks so far..... all so very different but equally beautiful.
In
between my Mystery BOM I did spend a couple of days making a little wall
hanging for my mum for mothers day. Luckily for my mum I love her dearly,
as I very nearly wanted to keep this one! Unfortunately the photo looks a little dark as my lighting at home is quite poor.
Each of
the flowers are raw edged appliquéd and machine quilted to accentuate the
petals. This is a technique I learnt at a workshop with BariJ back in
2011. Give it a go - it is great fun and it doesn't matter if you make a
mistake as it all blends in - just my type of sewing!!!
Happy
Sewing!
Stuffed goose?
I'm feeling a tad dispirited as I face unpicking all of this, but no stretching is going to get these rows to attach together! Despite my best attempts at accuracy clearly I'm not there yet, luckily I have plenty of fabric....
Any suggestions on where I'm going wrong?
Hope you are all having more success than me,
Caroline

Latest Swoon Square
Swoon square number 5. These squares are going together very easily now that I have made a few. Once this quilt is complete, I'll be joining in with Sue's farmyard creation quilt.
I'm so looking forward to the posts from everyone else about the squares that they are working on.
